Africa

This will be Virginia, Sarah, Maria, and me 10 months from now!
We are 2 days into the school year and already I am planning my summer adventure to Tanzania.  This morning, Virginia and I discussed our journey over coffee at Starbucks.  After reminiscing about our exciting trip to the Philippines last year, we realized that we love traveling with the Peters sisters.  I am happy to announce that our trip for 2 has happily turned into a trip for 4.

So here's the plan:
  • Fly into Kilimanjaro (the day after school gets out) and spend the first 2 days in Moshi, where we will enjoy the scenery, learn about the culture, and acclimatize.
  • Do a 6 night/7 day trek up Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest mountain, and one of the tallest free-standing mountains in the world.
  • Take 2 days to recover in Arusha.
  • Do a 5 - 7 day safari around parks in northeastern Tanzania, near the Kenyan border
  • Fly to Zanzibar where we'll relax and dive for approximately 5-6 days.
  • Fly home to the states!!
Last year, I jumped onto other people's fabulous trips to Bali, Kuala Lumpur, and the Philippines; it feels good to initiate a journey of my own, and I look forward to learning how to prepare for such a huge adventure.  I also look forward to getting in shape.  I start a 5am boot camp tomorrow.  Prior to our planning session today, I thought I would set my alarm for 4:40am but only go if I felt like getting up.  Now, I am quite certain I will be there at 5am, ready to shape up for the greatest physical challenge of my life:  climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro!!
