I survived my 2nd typhoon in Taipei - Typhoon Nanmadol. It was a gorgeous day in Taipei, except for some rough winds early this morning and some light rain at 11am. From noon on, it was lovely outside. I'm sure the same cannot be said for the southern part of the island, which was hit pretty hard. But I enjoyed a relaxing day: 3 hours on skype with friends, homemade mac and cheese (by homemade I mean I made it at home...from a box), some leisurely reading, an invigorating yoga class, and a Thai dinner with a few games of Catchphrase at my friend Grace's house. Best typhoon day ever! Oh, and I did squeeze in a little grading and some paper work for the Cambodia trip.
I am thoroughly disappointed in my two Taiwanese typhoons thus far; though I know I shouldn't complain. But I do like a good storm, so long as no one is hurt. I do, however, remain impressed with the names of the typhoons over here in the Rim of Fire. Nanmadol sounds like a cool drug, and Fanapi was just fun to say.
Here was the prediction as of Saturday morning:
 |
| According to this, Nanmadol was to hit Taipei (where the little green dot is) as a tropical storm on Wednesday evening. As of Monday afternoon, the eye of the storm was off the island and in the Taiwan straight southwest of Taipei. All I know is that I got a day off work - Holla!!! |

Unfortunately, the Philippines didn't have the same luck as we did. Here's a picture of Nanmadol during landfall in the Northern Philippines:
 |
| It looked menacing as it made its way to Taiwan. Alas, no typhoon for Taipei. |
In the meantime, here's what was going on in the Northeastern U.S.:
 |
| I hope everyone stateside weathered the storm safely! |
